Military murder five Manobo in Mindanao

HONG KONG (Mabuhay) : Five people from the Manobo indigenous group were murdered on August 18 in Bukidnon, northern Mindanao, by trigger-happy soldiers from the Armed Forces of The Philippines who had accused them of being members of the New People’s Army.

Fear is name of the game in Mindanao

DAVAO (UCAN) : The number of displaced tribal people on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao continues to rise as another group of villagers began seeking refuge at temporary shelters in Davao City from October 10.

Some 165 people from the Pulangihan Manobo indigenous group said they fled their homes in a remote part of Bukidnon province after soldiers from the Philippine Armed Forces arrested several people in the village.

Bishops asked to broker peace for Lumads

MANILA (Agencies) : Leaders of Lumad communities in Mindanao are asking the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of The Philippines to go beyond issuing statements condemning the recent murders of their community leaders and to actively intervene in ending the militarisation of tribal community areas.
