Children have a mission to children and their environs

DIGOS (Agencies) : In an effort to instill in young children the importance of taking responsibility for the care of each other and their surroundings, a January 15 convention hosted by the Holy Childhood Association in Digos likened it to being a missionary to their peers and their environment.

Held at Cor Jesu College Gymnasium, it is the third convention the Holy Childhood Association has sponsored in the diocese.

It ran under the theme, Mission as Children helping other children and caring for the environment.

The director for mission from the local diocese, Father Jupiter Canoy, said the children committed themselves to respect and help others, especially other children, by praying for them and by giving donations to those in greater need than themselves.

They also promised to care for the environment, by planting more trees, looking after them to ensure their growth and being more careful in segregating their garbage.

Canoy said the children donated gifts for typhoon victims, including kitchenware, which will be sent to the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.

“[They did that] with the little amount that they spared for their offerings. They realised that it is already a big help for those who will receive them,” CBCP News reported Father Canoy as saying.

The priest encouraged everyone, especially parents and people in charge of the formation and catechesis of children to really make an extra effort in teaching, guiding and moulding their young Christian lives.

He said that this must be done according to the teaching of Christ, so that as they may grow and mature, their lives may always be rooted in the values of the gospel.
