Sto. Niño visits Tondo

MANILA (Agencies) : The iconic symbol of the Catholic faith in The Philippines, the Sto. Niño de Cebu, paid a visit to one of the poorest areas of Manila on August 15, before taking part in the fluvial procession down the Pasig River as an advocate for the environment.

After a welcome Mass at the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, the image was then brought to the impoverished Baseco compound in Tondo, Manila, where hundreds of people turned out to welcome and venerate the statue before it was taken to the cathedral later in the afternoon.

“The Sto. Niño is the symbol of our Catholic faith. Every time we see the image, we are reminded of our faith. As Catholics and Christians, we need to deepen our faith and not just focus on the external,” Augustinian Father Harold Rentoria was quoted by CBCP News as saying.
