Aquino’s anointed one

MANILA (Mabuhay) : In naming the secretary for the Interior and Local Government, Mar Roxas, as his successor, the current president, Noynoy Aquino, has anointed him as his chosen one to move into Malacañang after the May election next year.

Although Roxas, whose family has large land holdings in Manila, is recognised as a fairly decent type, his track record in the administration’s abysmal handling of the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) may well count against him. Although Aquino praised him for his on-the-ground work in the crisis, a United Nations report indicates it was possibly a bigger disaster than the actual typhoon itself.
